Trudeau Liberals are failing victims of crime and their families

January 26, 2021

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

OTTAWA, ON – The Hon. Rob Moore, Conservative Shadow Minister for Justice and the Attorney General of Canada, and Pierre Paul-Hus, Shadow Minister for Public Services and Procurement, released the following statement regarding the Trudeau Liberals’ failure to stand up for victims of crime and their families:

“It has been two months since a provincial Quebec Court struck down Criminal Code changes that allow life sentences to be served consecutively. If this decision stands, it means the man who murdered six people in a Quebec City mosque in 2017 will be eligible to apply for parole in 25 years.

“More recently, a Quebec Superior Court ruled that convicted murderer Ugo Fredette will not serve consecutive sentences for the killing of two people in 2017 because of the Quebec Court’s decision last November.

“The Trudeau government must stop dragging their feet, defend the law, and ensure that Canada’s worst murderers remain locked away. A failure to do so sends the clear message the Trudeau Liberals do not care about victims and their families. While Quebec’s Attorney General has announced they will appeal the decision, the Trudeau Liberals have been silent.

“Conservatives will always put the rights of victims and law-abiding Canadians ahead of the rights of criminals and we will continue to hold the Trudeau Liberals to account when they fail to do the same.”
